”I've enclosed pictures that show my bike and me (with marvellous helmet hair formed by 500 km on the road in one go) in not so good quality, and a couple that shows my bike together with a CB750 (good quality),” Eirik writes.

1994 Suzuki GSX 600 F

Owner: Eirik Skjæveland, Norway

Comments: ”General impressions of the bike after approximately 2,500 kilometers (1,600 miles) suggest that it is very nimble and easy to ride. The engine is flexible, but definitely comes alive above 8,000 rpm. From there on until the rev limiter cuts in at 12,000 rpm, it has enough power to produce quarter mile times in the elevens.

Comfort is surprisingly good, something I would never have imagined up front. This is the first bike in 25 years of riding that doesn't cause me any sore spots even after hours on the road. The only intrusion upon comfort is noise; the screen is too steep and stirs the air behind into a turmoil that makes ear protection mandatory at elevated speeds.

The suspension is rather crude but acceptably comfy. I'm close to 100 kg with all my gear and I run the rear shock on the highest preload and maximum rebound damping. Reducing the rebound to its #3 setting increases comfort, at the cost of a slightly bouncy ride at times. The front fork is much too soft and bottoms regularly under braking; adding more oil and/or preloading the stock springs should provide a cheap and useful upgrade. Cornering clearance is very good even with the soft suspension.

A bit of nitpicking will reveal mirrors that show mostly arms and torso and very little road, and the engine vibrates a bit in the midrange. Maintenance is mostly straight forward but time consuming due to the all-enclosing bodywork sitting in the way. Brakes are strong but require high effort to really haul the bike down from speed.

In conclusion it's a solid and reliable bike that offer real-world performance for sporty road transport, although it's way past its gone-by date for track use.”

Comments: ”I wonder if there's anybody out there interested in buying my '00 TL1000R? It has only 2,300 km on the meter.

I do not want to separate from my bike but unfortunately I must sell it for medical reasons.

It has some extras mounted on it: Nikko carbon muffler, a bike alarm with remote control, smoke colored windshield and integrated flashers in the rear view mirrors.

Price: around 7,000 Euros.”

”Sorry the pics are in black and white but they were for a photography class, and I think they are the only ones that exist.  The bike is a black and silver.  Decent condition at the time of the pictures except for the clear coat flaking off of the tank.  The picture of me also doubled as a press pic for my band at the time which explains the guitar,” James writes.

1982 Suzuki GS 750 T

Owner: James Tunnell,
Birmingham, Alabama, USA

Comments: ”The bike is a 1982 suzuki GS750T.  I bought this great bike in early 1994.  It contracted some bizarre mechanical problems and it is stored at a friends house awaiting a total restoration.  My current bike is a 1986 Suzuki Intruder that I am installing a new engine in.

The bike has about 12,000 miles. It is mostly original save a few parts scavanged from a similar bike after an accident on the interstate.

I loved this motorcycle.  This post states that the engine is in a state of tune that makes it's top speed around 80?  In what?  Second gear?  This bike would really kick in the 6,000 rpm range and really give you the goosebumps during acceleration!  It has the same engine as the 750 Katana.  I had a Yamaha route 66 250 that would do 85!  This bike is great for a tall guy and not so great if you are shorter than say 5' 7".  I guess if you wanted to gripe about something it is the low gearing that makes for intense vibration and very numb fingers, arms and legs during long high speed rides.  I usually never rode it in this way... just around the block mostly. Very reliable though.  I really miss it!

If you ever come across one like it... buy it or be sorry later!”

”The only modification I have done is fabricate a custom back rest (not shown in the picture) and moved the signal lights back to allow the side bags to go back and make room for a passenger's leg.” James tells us.

1982 Suzuki GS 750 T

Owner: James Burmaster,
Cambridge, Ontario, Canada

Comments: ”I purchased this bike in 2002 with only about 19,000 km on it.  I am only the third owner.  It is in pretty good shape for its age.  Some of the rubber and plastic components are starting to decay, however.  I replaced the seat covering last winter.

This is my first bike, so I really have nothing to compare it with.  It was a little intimidating at first; it felt top heavy and touchy on the throttle.  Now I have grown comfortable with it.  I like the riding position, although I wouldn't mind the foot pegs a little farther forward.  I ride to work nearly every day over the summer, generally even in rain.  The brakes are not the best; the rear has a “woody” feel, and the switch on the front brake requires heavy braking before the light even comes on.”

2000 Suzuki GSX 1200 Inazuma

Owner: Janne Kinnunen,
Tampere, Finland

Purchased: March 2004, Germany

Mileage: 31,000 km (16,000 last summer)

Comments: ”The bike is great to ride, good riding position. A great engine (lots of torque) makes it easy to ride even with passanger.
Wider and straighter handlebar makes the bike feel much lighter.
Front forks could be better, I have used 20W-30 oil in the front, it made a great improvement on street but the front suspension could be stiffer on race track. Perhaps the Inazuma is not designed to take down GSXR...”
