2002 Suzuki GSX 1400

Owner: Dave Elgar,
Waikato, New Zealand

Comments: ”I have owned my bike for nearly two years and absolutely love it. I have done over 25,000 kms on it. All I have done to it is fit a K&N air filter and had the white wheels polished on the outsides of the rims and painted the centres dark blue to match the tank. I run Metzeler Z6 tyres which I find suit the bike really well.

My wife and I are going to ride down to Ruapuna in the south island in March to the John Britten memorial which is also the fifth & final round of the NZ national road racing series. We are lucky in NZ to still have two races on the streets in two different towns. It is called the battle of the streets.

The first round is on Boxing Day in Wanganui and the second round is in a little town called Paeroa. They are awesome to watch as you get to stand on the side of the road behind fences or hay bales & watch the latest Superbikes screaming past.

I am a motorcycle salesman for the local Honda shop. Our apprentice mechanic has been racing Supermotard and doing really well so we have bought him an 05 CRF450R and turned it into a Supermotard bike for the series which he is really looking forward to.”

'83 GSX 1000 S Katana

”Won't ever sell it, just get so many looks and it always starts a conversation anywhere I go.” David recommends the Katanacentral on the Internet for anyone interested in the model. He also thinks the Katana Owners Club in GB is great. Should somebody wish to contact David, “try the Katanacentral web site.”

1983 Suzuki GSX 1000 S Katana

Owner: David Willkes,
Cambridge area, United Kingdom

Comments: ”It's my 1983 GSX1000SZ Katana, it has 30,000 miles on the clock. The engine has a had a full rebuild some 2,000 miles ago. I've owned it for five years and replaced various bits, seat, disks, shoxs, chain sproket, pads. I have outbraided hoses on the front, black plastic lined. Some cosmetic touch up to frame work but thats about it.

I ride it as often as possible although I also own a Bandit 1200 so I have to share my time. Handling and brakes are fine for the year, it pulls like a train! I don't find the ride possition too uncomfortable, even at my age! I'm 44, but look and act 43...”

'88 GSX 600 F

Ross Burr from New Zealand on his repainted GSX600F. “I had the Suzuki labels for the fuel tank and the main fairing made up for me, but hand cut the 'GSX 600F' labels myself.” Ross writes. ”I love my old bike and am still using it daily. I try to look after it the best I can, but as it has now done 123,029 km it's getting a little harder each kilometer that goes by now. Just yesterday I renewed the LH fork seal, the fork oil, stripped the brake calipers and polished up the pistons and renewed the caliper seals. I do wish the bike had better brakes, - it stops OK but the lever is a bit spongy.”

1988 Suzuki GSX 600 F

Owner: Ross Burr,
Lower Hutt, New Zealand

Comments: ”I've owned it since '92 and it's never let me down yet. I've just done regular servicing, - tyres, chains, sprockets, etc... and an oil change every six months and an oil filter every twelve months.

It's a 1988 (first registered in 1989) - chassis no. GN72A-102837. The previous owner had done 2,000 km in one year and condensation had formed in the fuel tank, and consequently rusted the bottom of it, necessitating the replacement of it. So we replaced it,and repainted the whole bike at the same time. It was red on top, white in the middle and black on the bottom when I bought it. Hence it being all red, yet still having the older style mag wheels.

One thing I had to replace was the rear shock absorber - the chrome had come off the strut and chewed through the seal causing it to lose most of the damping fluid - Bouncy Rear End!  A FZR400 Yamaha shock now resides in the back end now - compression and rebound adjustable - great! The spring seems fine too! ”

1994 Suzuki GSX 750 F

Owner: Eduardo Sakemi,
São Paulo, Brazil

Purchased: 2000

Comments: ”I am 41 years old, have been riding since 12. I find my GSX750F the best motorcycle I have ever owned. And I have owned more than ten... It has a soft running stile and a great position for riding.

It's not as hard as the GSX-R family, and even not being too fast it runs well and if you are a good rider, you can get famous bikes behind your tail.

Anyway, a GSX750F will never let you in trouble. Easy maintenance.
Beautiful as few. Confort and smart riding...

What else to say? I think it's quite cheap to buy and own, at least compared to many other 750cc bikes. You must try one.... For any more information write to my e-mail address (click on the link from my name)...”

1980 Suzuki GS 400 S

Owner: Andrew Harvey,
Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada

Comments: ”My bike was made in Feb 1980 according to the Vehicle data plate and I bought it in 1983. The bike is original except for the exhaust pipes (replaced with stock), tires, and not surprizingly the chain. Otherwise no cosmetics or mods are done.

The bike has accumulated 31,000 kilometres and is still a reliable machine - not to good in -40°C though!”

Suzuki '01 VZ 800 Marauder

”This pic is of my boys on the bike.  They like to get short rides around the neighborhood, but can't wait to be big enough to go on longer rides.” Jeffrey writes.

2001 Suzuki VZ 800 Marauder

Owner: Jeffrey Spencer, Yuba City, CA  USA

Purchased: Birthday present from my dad, September 2002

Mileage: 12,000 miles

Mods: Added a few accessories.  Windshield, saddlebags, engine guard, highway pegs, headlight visor, leather handle fringe, tank chap, blue dot tail lamp, billet mirrors.  Changed out original tires for white walls - got that retro look.

Comments: ”This bike is nice to ride.  Tracks well and easy to ride.  It gets uncomfortable after 100 miles.  I'm looking at a new seat that may cure the problem.  Frame is short for me, so the highway pegs are handy.  I'm also looking at forward controls.

Great for rides to Tahoe, through the foothills, Napa valley or to San Francisco.”

Suzuki '70 TS 90 Honcho

A Suzuki TS-90 (also called Honcho in the US) in beautiful mint condition. Matt tells that he owned a similar bike as a teenager but it wasn't easy to convince his parents that he really needed an orange Suzuki to race with. ”I went to the dealer and got twenty of the brochures and for some time, every time my father put on his slippers, there was a brochure in them.  When he grabbed his towel after a shower, a brochure fell out.” he writes.

1970 Suzuki TS 90 Honcho

Owner: Matt Davis,
Tulsa, Oklahoma, USA

Comments: ” The bike is an all-original 1970 Suzuki TS-90 Honcho in orange.  It has never been down; the engine case has never been opened.  There is not a single tear in the original seat or dent in the tank.  It has 2,212 original miles on it and still has the original tires with plenty of wear.

I raced a bike identical to this as a teenager. When I asked for permission to buy the bike as a 14-year-old in 1970, my parents both said, “Absolutely not.”  I went to the dealer and got twenty of the brochures and for some time, every time my father put on his slippers, there was a brochure in them.  When he grabbed his towel after a shower, a brochure fell out.  This relentless campaign resulted in my getting permission to buy the new bike with my paper-route earnings and I reluctantly sold it when I bought a car two years later.

I came across your web site several years ago and was delighted to find the original brochure. Your site and the brochure started me on a search for a mint Honcho and I found this one in Utah .  The title and paperwork verified the mileage.  It had been stored for twenty years, but the owner had started it every few months and run it enough to keep the seals sound.  When it arrived and I un-crated it, it started on the first kick and has ever since.

I have enjoyed so much owning this one that I just added a 2002 Suzuki 1400 for road trips.  Thanks for being the inspiration for my Honcho! ”
