1982 GS750T magazine article from USA (single page). Click to enlarge.
The road test was published in the Cycle Guide, January 1982. This
magazine article was scanned and sent to me by Chris Wolfe (English but living in USA). Chris let us all know, by telling it and with the help of the article above that the GS750T was not restricted in any way, despite the rumour. Chris tells us: “It's commonly thought that this bike was restricted in some way for the North American market, but in fact only the speedometer was limited at 80mph, something to do with trying to limit the speed of motorcycles in the early eighties (trust me the bike is still pulling very hard in 5th gear with the needle at the stop). Apparently for a couple of years all motorcycles sold in Northern America had only 80mph speedometers installed for this purpose. As you might imagine the ploy didn't work, go figure, and appropriate speedometers reappeared in 1983 or 1984.” Thanks, Chris! |
