1981 Suzuki GSX 750 E

Owner: Jeff Edworthy.
Devon . United Kingdom

Imported from USA 1997

Comments: ”I purchased the bike in August 2004 and according to the speedo/milometer it has not done 40,000 miles. Speedo reads up to 85 mph and 55mph is highlighted probably the max speed of the state in America where it started it's life.

My Suzi is now for sale as I have bought a CBR600. You cannot compare the performance or handling between them; but Suzi and I had a good time in a quirky sort of way.”

Actually, the GSX750E was never sold in America. The model was called GS750E in the USA. If the side covers stating "GSX750" are original and also the original speedo shows miles, not kilometers, then then bike was probably meant to be sold on the UK market. If the meters are original and not the side covers, then I would believe that it was sold new in America.

Still, it's the same bike regardless where it comes from - unless it's a Japanese domestic model. The larger bikes sold in Japan had power-restricted engines.

1979 Suzuki GS 750 E

Owner: Michael Catsavis,
Johannesburg, South Africa

Comments: ”I've got a Suzuki '79 GS750E in the same original condition as the one in your picture on the site. I bought the bike in 2004 with 42,000 km on the meter (we think more like 242,000) and now on 63,000 but it still looks beautiful. It's the only one in Joburg that I've ever seen in this condition.

We rebuilt the top half of the motor, we put new pistons, rings, valve guide seals, gaskets and all parts used were only genuine Suzuki parts.

We also took out the points and condensors which cost 1,000 Rand (F^#*ing expensive) and put in a CDI ignition system from a GSX1100. It fits perfectly and the wires match right up.

The bike runs like a dream. It goes so smoothly and also offers a very comfortable seating position. Being a typical Suzuki I find that there's torque only in higher revs, it does not have an even torque band like Hondas... But no 750 from that time can catch me when that torque band kicks in!

At first the handling felt strange and heavy but as soon as you learn to trust the bike you can ride any corner at any speed and go through with ease.

The fuel consumption is not too bad; on the open road approximately 6.8-7.2 liters per 100 km.  I've never tested the 0-100 but I can say that this bike accelerates like hell and the top speed is about 215 km/h on the highway which is very good - and I get there easily.

Altogether it's a brilliant bike. I promise that it will never let you down as long as there is oil in the engine.”

A holiday in Mpumalanga. Michael (the red shirt) with his mother and his uncle. And the Suzuki. The engine guards and the exhaust system are not original by the way.

Owner: Bruno Doerwald,
Burlington , Ontario , Canada

Comments: ”I have included a picture taken of me and my girlfriend in the summer of 1968 to announce the introduction of the helmet laws in the province of Ontario, Canada. That was my first motorcycle, a '66 Suzuki T20.  The next one was a 1968 X6 Scrambler.

My son has a '87 GSX-R 50, all original and in great shape.”

1979 Suzuki GS 850 G

Owner: Keith Markham,
Broomfield, Colorado, USA

Comments: ”Here is a picture of my winter project. It's a '79 GS850G that I am modifying.  I don't have much money so a lot of ingenuity is the main thing going into the bike.

I got the bike from a friend in 2002 December and it's just been sitting on the side of my house until recently. My friend received it from his uncle 10 years earlier, and never did anything with it. The last time it was plated was in 1986 in Michigan USA when it was abandoned in the garage of a house that the bank repossessed.

I started messing with it in the summer of 2003 and found four broken wires in the left controls. I soldered them back together, rebuilt the carbs and had it running, but the brakes were seized so unfortunately I didn't have a chance to ride it.

It came from the factory with the Vetter (Windjammer) fairing and hard case saddle bags. I thought it looked really stupid ...but that is just my opinion. Don't get me wrong, it's a great feature for function... just not the best look.

I got it with 46,000 miles on the odometer. When it ran it did not smoke so I think I can get a couple of riding seasons before having to do at least the top end.

So far, besides the sheetmetal work, it has a tank from a '00 GSX600F Katana and the seats are from a '92 Katana. The cardboard you see in the picture is eventually going to be sheetmetal.

I am having a hard time figuring out what color to paint it. and will update you with pictures of the progress.”
