1980 Suzuki ZR 50 or X-1

Owner: Christiaan Derrick,
Rochford, Essex. UK

Comments : ”I bought this bike in 1996 for the sum of 120GBP. It was a 80/81 model (X-plate reg in UK).

The only modifications I believe were the K&N filter replacing the airbox and the micron exhaust. I am not sure if the fairing was original. I ended up removing it and fitting flatter handlebars.

The bike topped out at 45mph.

It was an excellent first bike for me, very easy to ride. The only things I ever had to do to it was remove the head and decoke it every 4000 miles or so. The only component which failed was the little rectifier which meant the battery went too!”

1984 Suzuki GSX 550 EF

Owner: Fred, York region
Ontario Canada

Comments : ”I got this bike in January 2004. As you can see it has custom paint (the paint was like this when i got it) and the rims and tires are off of a 1986 GS 1100. Both tires are wider than OEM and I had to cut, notch and reweld the rear caliper anchor in order to accomodate the wider tire.

This bike was an original investment of $20 Canadian dollars (I bought a '91 GMC Safari Van for $20, put a battery in it, then traded it for '80 Honda CM400 custom and $250 cash, traded that for a shifter kart , then traded the kart for $500 and '84 Honda Odyssey, then the Odyssey for the '84 Suzuki GSX 550 EF) so alltogether I made $730.00 CAD the time it took to complete all of these trades and sales took me 7 weeks (from the time I got the van to when I got the bikes) and also got a great bike (and a parts bike).

I love the ride I get from this bike. I have only test ridden this bike about 25 km but with all of the bikes I've ridden I know that I will enjoy this summer on it. Thanks for letting me share my story with everyone. I have been riding for three years - rain or shine - and love it.”

1987 Suzuki GSX-R 400

Owner: Thinus Kruger, Bloemfontein Free State, South Africa

Imported as Grey Import to South Africa in 1996. Model: GSX-R (400) Frame: GK71F

Comments : ”I am told that the bike is a Yoshimura Special. I bought it second hand in January 2004. This is my first bike so I am still getting used to it. My question to anybody out there is if this is a so called Yoshimura special? What is the possible model? Are the colors original?”

I believe the model is a 1987 GSX-R400, the first of the models that were actually called GSX-R400 instead of simply GSX-R, presented in June 1987 in Japan. The paint scheme is not standard but wheather the model is a Yoshimura Special or not, I don't know. Can anyone of you readers help?

1981 Suzuki GS 750 T

Owner: Chuck Gilbert, Brooklyn NY, USA

Comments: ”Just bought this Suzuki GS750T in November 2003. Got it in running condition and am planing to restore it to mint condition. If I can get it close to looking like Mark Crybos' bike I will be very lucky.

Rides, and sounds great.

Here is the before pic. Hope to have an after pic for you in the spring of 2004.”

Suzuki '67 M 15 M-15

”A recent purchase in very tidy condition. Runs well but requires a good service and repairs to the seat. Due to be on the road summer 2004.”

Joe is a serious collector of old Suzukis. He tells that he is a ”sad” person who don't like getting ride of things. He owns now almost 70 Suzukis, , lots of books and manuals and bike magazines from the 60's and 70's.

Owner: Owner: Joe W Richardson,
Hull, United Kingdom

Comments: ”I have been busy over the last two years buying nearly everything I can to enable my collection of ‘twins’ to be built.

It has been strange in that the more I have bought, the more I have come across. I have also been able to get bike restoration projects that nobody else would pay for because I have also got the parts that other do not have in order to finish them. In fact, the collection now stands at nearly 70 bikes - though I only intend to build for myself 54 of them.

Here's the current collection of bikes in a complete condition (listed by capacity) but as said I actually have over twice this number but the others are dismantled for easier storage.

I am trying to get one or two of each type on the road. It is also evident that recent purchases are the older single cylinder bikes. Previously I only looked at twins.”

1967 Suzuki K 11 T
Owner: Owner: Joe W Richardson,
Hull, United Kingdom

Comments: ”Purchased mid 2003. A very special version of the K11T as it had been upgraded to full trial specification by a trial bike specialist in 1970.

Modifications carried out were as follows:

Extended front forks with larger front wheel
Flared fear body frame with increased width of rear wheel rim
Solid steel ‘rear footpegs’ fitted into swinging arm
Modified exhaust system
Modified steering to allow the handlebars to turn over 90 degrees each way
Bodywork upgrades with single seat and different tank to allow full handlebar movement.

Due to the uniqueness of this bike with the modification done, I intend to restore the bike to this specification.”
