The same designer, Ichiro Miyata, who draw the original DR750 in the eighties designed also the new V-Strom 1050. The motorcycles have over three decades between them but share a similar design concept with the beak.

The Suzuki V-Strom 1050, also known as the DL1050, is a dual-sport motorcycle with a 1037 cc V-twin engine and a standard riding posture. It has been manufactured in Japan by Suzuki since 2020, as the replacement of the Suzuki V-Strom 1000. The DL1050 was unveiled in 2019 at EICMA by Suzuki and has similarities with the styling of the eighties Suzuki DR Big / DR750. The bikes were created by the same designer, Ichiro Miyata. The name V-Strom combines "V" referring to the bike's engine configuration with the German "Strom", meaning stream or power. The V-Strom motorcycle is based on the V-twin engine initially designed for the Suzuki TL1000S and TL1000R motorcycles. It incorporates design elements from other Suzuki motorcycles including fuel injection based on the GSX-R models. There's also two smaller-engined versions, the Suzuki V-Strom 250 and Suzuki V-Strom 650. The DL1050's engine is almost identical to the engine of the 2013-2019 model, except now modified to comply to EURO5 emission standards. Performance gains are thanks to new camshaft profiles and some other tweaks, with a five-kW increase to 79 kW at 8500rpm, or 106 hp. For 2020, the Suzuki DL1050 V-Strom was available in a standard, XT and XT Adventure trim. The three models differ in that the base features cast aluminum wheels instead of the spoked wheels seen on the XT and XT Adventure. The XT also features a centerstand, crash guards, brush guards, cruise control, hand-adjustable windscreen, and a slew of rider aids. The XT Adventure has the same features as the XT, but pumps the model up with heated grips and aluminum panniers and a topbox. The Adventure model was also known as "Tour" in some countries. New V-Strom 1050 color, Candy Daring Red / Glass Sparkle Black (AV4), was offered for the 2021. Also, new colors were offered for the XT version; Metallic Oort Grey / Glass Sparkle Black (BD7) – a steely grey with blue decals, grey seat and blue spoked wheels. An updated yellow option featured a black tank, blue seat and gold rims. Gold rims also feature on an otherwise all black version, bar subtle grey and gold decals. 2021 V-Strom 1050 XT colours are: Champion Yellow No.2 / Glass Sparkle Black (BT1), Metallic Oort Gray No.3 / Glass Sparkle Black (BD7), Glass Sparkle Black (YVB), Pearl Brilliant White / Glass Blaze Orange (B1F) The new-for-2021 colours on the V-Strom 1050XT also apply to the Tour edition, offered in some countries. Genuine Black Alloy Luggage, combined storage of 112 litre, was included the Tour kit.

2022 Suzuki year code: M2

Not many new or updated motorcycle models were introduced during the Covid-19 epidemic. The M2 V-Strom 1050 models remained the same. No changes were made to neither specifications nor appearance of the bikes.

Adventure model, offered in the US, was better equipped for touring thanks to heated grips, LED fog lamps, and 37-liter aluminum panniers, all standard. V-Strom 1050 models were powered by a 1,037cc V-twin with ride-by-wire. When the engine was last updated, it got new camshafts for exhaust and intake valves, new ECM, and better cooling by way of a new radiator. Other helpful touches include Suzuki’s Low-RPM Assist system, the Easy-Start System, and Idle Speed Control. It was equipped with a fully adjustable 43mm KYB fork and a single shock with remote spring preload and rebound damping adjustment. Braking was handled by four-piston Tokico calipers at the front and a two-piston Nissin caliper at the rear. It also has a combined braking system with Motion Track ABS. Motion Track is part of a suite of electronics managed by the Suzuki Intelligent Ride System, which also includes Hill Hold Control, Slope Dependent Control, cruise control, ride modes, and traction control. Three years after the big V-Strom makeover, the 2023 V-Strom models were presented in September 2022. The styling was not altered but the XT version was discontinued and replaced by a more off-road focused V-Strom 1050DE.

Suzuki V-Strom 1050 XT was discontinued after 2022 season and replaced by a more off-road focused V-Strom 1050DE.
