Suzuki SW-1 is a fully inclosed retro styled 250cc motorbike, made for the Japanese home market. Its engine came from the Suzuki GN250. It had belt drive, twin supertrapp adjustable silencers, dual leather looking seats, rear pop open storage and was finished i Cream, making it look evcen more vintage. Only the cast alloy wheels could tell it was a modern machine.
Born from the Tokyo Creative movement aimed to develop new products for the 21st century, the SW-1 was exhibited at the 1991 Tokyo Motor Show as an inspirational model and attracted many favorable comments. Developed under the concept of casual cruising from city streets to the big outdoors, it features a sleek and fully covered chassis that realizes a perfect harmony with its surroundings, whether in town or in the suburbs. Its unique and curvaceous styling delivers an impression of high refinement. The 250 cm³ air-cooled 4-stroke 1-cylinder engine is paired with an oil cooler and realizes a superb balance between ample torque and rideability. The belt-driven drivetrain is extremely quiet and easy to maintain, and a seesaw-type gear shift pedal was adopted to protect the instep of the rider’s shoe. The SW-1 received the 1992 Good Design Award.
The SW-1 was released in February 1992 and sold in Japan between 1992 and 1994. No changes were made during this time. |
