Suzuki SV400S 1998
| I have tried to tell the Suzuki SV400 and SV400S models' history on this page as I
know it. This page is still under construction.
I would be grateful of any contributions sales brochures, magazine ads,
magazine articles, pictures, specs, facts, corrections etc. Please scan the material
in JPEG format (large enough that all the details are visible) and send
them to me. Please tell me the source and the publication date if possible.
If you send me pictures of your own bike, please follow these
instructions.

round headlight, and the SV400S, with top fairing and two headlight
and some other differences, like lower handlebars (see pictures). |

2001 Suzuki year code: K1

The 2001 year's version had new seat form among new decals
on the tank and the fairing. Introduced at the end of the January
2001 in Japan. Only available in red.
 |

2002 Suzuki year code: K2

No changes were made for the 2002 model.
 |

2003 Suzuki year code: K3

The 2003 year's SV400 and SV400S models are basically the same
bikes as earlier. According to the specs I found on Suzuki Motor
Company's home page in Japan, the overall length of the bike has
increased with 30 mm and the wheelbase with 15 mm, otherwise the
specifications are the same as for the previous year's model.
The most significant improvement (in my opinion) is the new color
scheme for the SV400S. The bike is now available in Suzuki's racing
colors, in style with the GSX-R models.
Colors available: Candy Blue, Pearl White/Deep Blue
 |

2004 Suzuki year code: K4

New color schemes. Like most of the '04 Suzukis, there's only
the classic Suzuki "S" on the fuel tank, in style with
the Vintage Suzuki motorcycles. The frame and the wheels are now
painted black.
Colors available: Candy Red, Pearl White/Deep Blue

All the larger motorcycles made for the Japanese home market are power restricted.
Prior to 1993 the maximum horsepower were the following:
250cc class: 45hp
400cc class: 59 hp
750cc class: 77 hp
over 750cc: not allowed
The new limits for the models built in 1993 and after, were:
250cc class: 40hp
400cc class: 53 hp
750cc class: 77 hp
over 750cc: allowed, but restricted to 100 hp.
Bikes with more powerful engines are and were made for export only. However, if a Japanese private person wants to buy an unrestricted bike, they are allowed to import it from another country by themselves for private use... |
