| I
have tried to tell the Suzuki 250 SB model history on this page
as I know it. This page is still under construction.
I would be grateful of any contributions sales brochures, magazine ads,
magazine articles, pictures, specs, facts, corrections etc. Please scan the material
in JPEG format (large enough that all the details are visible) and send
them to me. Please tell me the source and the publication date if possible.
If you send me pictures of your own bike, please follow these
instructions.

The Suzuki 250 SB supermoto (motard) was launched in February 2002. It was essentially the first generation Kawasaki D-Tracker 250 sold under the Suzuki brand. In terms of technical characteristics, the bikes were identical. Only the color and design of the stamp pieces were different. The 250SB was sold mainly in Japan at the domestic market.
Bikes that are basicly off-road models with 17-inch street tyres are mainly called supermotos but in North America they are often called superbikes. Kawasaki called it exclusively North American style since the days of the KSR small displacement bike. The model name 250SB also seems to be influenced by Kawasaki's style (SB – super bike). In contrast , Suzuki's DR-Z400SM is placed in European style (SM - super moto).
The basis of the 250SB is taken from the old version of the Kawasaki KLX250 with a single-cylinder, 4-stroke liquid-cooled engine. The lightweight and compact LX250DE engine had 4 valves, DOHC and was equipped with two radiators. The 249 cm³ engine delivered 29 hp at 9,000 rpm and 25 Nm at 7,000 revs. The main changes compared to the KLX250 were the wheels (17-inch road spokes), the suspension settings and brakes.
The Suzuki 250SB existed on the market until 2005, when it was discontinued. Meanwhile, the Kawasaki D-Tracker 250 model continued to be in high demand. Its production was transferred to Thailand in 2003, and in 2008 serious revisions were carried out. D-Tracker 250 was later marketed as Kawasaki D-Tracker X in many countries, mainly on the South-east Asian market.
