Suzuki RG80E (X3) 1981—1983
I have tried to tell the Suzuki RG 80E (also called X3) model history on this page as I know it.
I would be grateful of any contributions sales brochures, magazine ads,
magazine articles, pictures, specs, facts, corrections etc. Please scan the material
in JPEG format (large enough that all the details are visible) and send
them to me. Please tell me the source and the publication date if possible.
If you send me pictures of your own bike, please follow these
instructions.
Suzuki RG80E was a short-lived motorcyle model. As far as I know, it was only manufactured between 1981 and 1983. The 79cc 2-stroke 1-cylinder street bike TS-80 was introduced
for the Japanese home market in March 1981. The model remained unchanged and was continued in 1983. In some countries (at least in West Germany), the model was marketed as Suzuki X3.
The same engine was used in other Suzuki models, the GN80/GT80L and the
TS80/TS80ER, a 79 cm³ 2-stroke single cylinder power reed valve engine that combines an impressive maximum horsepower of 10 PS (the domestic Japanese version) with easy-to-handle flat torque characteristics. This engine features an aluminum cylinder and cylinder head for improved heat dissipation, enabling ideal performance for long runs and other tough riding conditions. User-friendliness is also enhanced by the adoption of the maintenance-free Pointless Electronic Ignition (PEI) system and a primary kickstarter. This model also features a large rectangular headlight, rear carrier, and star-shaped cast alloy wheels. The cruiser style GN80E also debuted at the same time.
1981 Suzuki year code: X
The Suzuki RG80E was marketed as Suzuki X-3 in Europe. Here's a picture from a West-German brochure. The German version delivered 6 hp (4.4 kW), not 10 hp like the domestic version of the Japanese bike.
