1982 Suzuki Love (CL50) advertisements: ”Off the Wall” and ”Don't Stop 'til You Get Enough” with Michael Jackson single record sleeves. Click to enlarge.
These are not magazine adverts but another ways for Suzuki to promote their new scooter model.
The pop star Michael Jackson posed for loads of promotional pictures and appeared on TV commercials for the Suzuki Love scooter. He was 23 years old at the time, and the mega-selling Thriller album had not yet been released. Although Jackson was very popular in the USA, he was not that well known in Japan, and it was his first appearance in a Japanese commercial.
There were two versions of the Suzuki Love TV commercial; Michael dancing by himself on the roof of a mansion with ”Off the Wall” as background music, and Michael dancing with a beautiful woman with ”Don't Stop 'til You Get Enough” in the background. In both versions, Michael ends with saying ”Love is my Message.” Here are both of the Japanese single covers, Michael posing with a Suzuki Love scooter. |
