The Suzuki Intruder 1500 series of cruisers began its history in 1998, when the Suzuki VL1500 Intruder LC model was introduced to the market as the main competitor of the Kawasaki VN 1500 Vulcan, which at that time had been on sale for two years. Since 2005, the Intruder line has been divided into Boulevard for the North American and Oceanian markets and Intruder for the European market.
Since 2005, the Suzuki Intruder 1500 series have had the following models: Suzuki Boulevard C90 (90 cubic inches) and Suzuki Intruder C1500 (VL1500, 1500 cubic millimeters).
Since 2009, muscle modifications of the motorcycle have been added to the line - they no longer looked like classic cruisers, but were drag-style motorcycles. The main reason for their appearance was the desire of Suzuki to offer the market a cheaper and lighter version, as similar as possible to the flagship. The models were
Suzuki Boulevard M90 and
Suzuki Intruder M1500 (VZ1500).
The Suzuki Intruder 1500 series was based on a 2-cylinder V-shaped air- and oil-cooled engine with a volume of 1462 cc, producing 67 hp power and 115 Nm of torque. Despite the seemingly identical engine on all models of the Intruder 1500 line, it is not and differed significantly on each of the presented models. In particular, the Suzuki Boulevard C90 (Intruder C1500) engine differs from the Suzuki VL1500 Intruder LC engine in the presence of electronic fuel injection, the Boulevard M90 (Intruder M1500) engines differ from the Boulevard C90 (Intruder C1500) engines in the camber angle (54 degrees versus 45), liquid cooling, 4-valve cylinder head (instead of 3-valve), valve seat tilt and intake valve diameter, compression ratio (9.5 vs. 8.5), valve cover design (on the M90 ?they are made separately from the camshaft cover), cylinder surface treatment (on the M90 - SCEM technology), injection system (on the M90 - double injectors 42 mm, on the C90 - single 36 mm), gear ratios of the gearbox (on the M90 more long passes). These changes made it possible to significantly increase the maximum power and torque of the Boulevard M90 (Intruder M1500) motorcycles - up to 106 hp. and 136 Nm.
The main competitors of the Suzuki Intruder 1500 in the class were
Honda VTX 1300, Kawasaki VN1500 Vulcan, Kawasaki VN1600 Vulcan, Yamaha XV1600A, Yamaha XV1700 Warrior and Yamaha XVS1300A.
Brief history of the model:
1998 - start of production and sales of Suzuki VL 1500 Intruder LC (Legendary Classic).
2002 - The Suzuki VL 1500 Intruder LC model gets a double disc brake in front and a fuel tank increased to 15.5 liters (instead of 13 liters).
2004 Suzuki VL 1500 Intruder LC gets integrated hazard warning light switch with low/high beam switch; hydraulic clutch, hydraulic lifters, multi-reflex turn signals and reverse torque limiter.
2005 - The Suzuki VL 1500 Intruder LC is replaced by the Suzuki Intruder C1500 (VL1500) in Europe and the Suzuki Boulevard C90 in the US. The main difference is the presence of electronic fuel injection instead of carburetors.
2009 - the appearance of the Suzuki Intruder M1500 (VZ1500) and Suzuki Boulevard M90 models.
2013 - The standard version of the Suzuki Boulevard C90 is no longer in production, only Suzuki Boulevard C90T (touring) and Suzuki Boulevard C90 BOSS (classic) versions were officially produced. The air-oil engine were replaced by a liquid-cooled engine from the M90. New wheel design and the front brakes became single disc. More detailed changes are presented below, in the table "Technical characteristics".  |

In 2005, the Suzuki VL 1500 Intruder LC was replaced by the Suzuki Intruder C1500 (VL1500) in Europe and the Suzuki Boulevard C90 in the US. The new Intruder C1500 and Boulevard C90 got electronic fuel injection instead of carburetors.
The 2005 Suzuki C1500 Intruder colors were Black, Blue / Black and Silver / Black.
