I
have tried to tell the Suzuki GSX-S 950 model history on this
page as I know it.
I would be grateful of any contributions sales brochures, magazine ads,
magazine articles, pictures, specs, facts, corrections etc. Please scan the material
in JPEG format (large enough that all the details are visible) and send
them to me. Please tell me the source and the publication date if possible.
If you send me pictures of your own bike, please follow these
instructions.

2021 Suzuki year code: M1

Downtuned GSX-S1000
Let's see how it works in the United Kingdom:
Three different motorcycle license categories are valid in the United Kingdom: A1, A2 or Full Category A motorbike licence. There are no restrictions to what you can ride with a full Category A license but there are power and power-to-weight restrictions with both A1 and A2 licences.
With A1 you have to be 17-years-old and any bike is restricted to a maximum engine capacity of 125cc producing up to 11 kW (14.7bhp) with a power-to-weight ratio not more than 0.1 kW per kg).
To hold an A2 license you must be 19 years-old and the bike can have a maximum power output of up to 35kW and cannot be derived from a motorcycle with more than twice that amount originally if a restrictor kit is being used.
You can't get an A motorcycle licence directly before you are 24, unless you have held an A2 motorcycle licence for 2 years, then you can take another practical test and qualify for an A motorcycle licence.
For those with an A2 license, there are restricted models created for the young riders, Suzuki GSX-S950 being one of them. However, the GSX-S1000 don't meet the A2 standards, even power restricted. The rules are that to make an A2-legal bike, the original machine can't have more than twice the restricted power threshold, hence the reduction in peak power. That means that bikes with more than 95 bhp engine power cannot be restricted down to be allowed to be ridden with an A2 license. Suzuki GSX-S1000 has 150 bhp.
Solution: Suzuki creates a new model version of the bike called GSX-S950 that, with the same but "street-tuned" engine, delivers only 95 bhp (70 kW) peak power unrestricted. Be remapping the ECU it delivers the required 47.5 bhp (35 kW) to make this model available to A2 licence holders too. No physical modifications to the bike are not needed to get it back to full power, a simple 'plug and play' reflash from a dealer is enough.
The motorcycle license regulations mentioned above are valid for the UK, but there are similar rules in many other countries, of young and unexperienced license holders not being allowed to ride very powerful bikes . The GSX-S950 is sold in many European countries, Sweden (where I live) being among them.

2024 Suzuki year code: M4

Apart from a new color scheme, the 2024 model of the Suzuki GSX-S950 remained unchanged. In some countries the GSX-S950 was introduced as a new model.
The colors scemes and the graphics of the M4 model of the GSX-S950 seem to vary depending of which country you live in. In France for instance, the Pearl Brilliant White color option was replaced with the Metallic Matte Sword Silver. In Germany, only the Blue and Black versions were made available.

Metallic Matte Black No.2 (YKV) and the new color Metallic Matte Sword Silver (SKU) – the same colors as for the GSX-S1000 but with partly different graphics.

2025 Suzuki year code: M5

In many countries, the 2025 model of the Suzuki GSX-S950 was offered in three colors: Metallic Triton Blue (6CX),
Glass Sparkle Black (YVB) and Metallic Matte Sword Silver (CSX) – now with blue accents.
Again, in some countries, the 2024 year's color palette was used instead.
While the black and the silver options are slightly different, the Metallic Triton Blue livery looks identical but in some sources claim that the M4 and M5 models have different color codes (YSF and 6CX). Confusing.
The new 5-inch color TFT LCD multi-function instrument panel features a display of a rich variety of information: speedometer and tachometer, riding range, odometer, dual trip meter, gear position, water temperature, engine rpm indicator, service reminder, average fuel consumption, instant fuel consumption, traction control mode, fuel gauge, 12-hour clock and Voltmeter.
