A shaft-driven heavy weight tourer, GS1000G, manufactured between 1980 and 1982, was introduced in May 1980 as a 1980 year's model. Except for cosmetic differences and the shaft drive, the GS1000G had a lot in common with the rest of the GS1000 model family. Here's a 5-page magazine article of the ”GS1000 Shaft” published in Cycle World, November 1980. The test team liked the bike: ”...around our office, no motorcycle tested in the last year has been more sought after for long trips ... the GS1000G is the kind of high performance touring bike that's closer to meeting our desires than just about anything.”
