Suzuki GF250S
1986–1989

I have tried to tell the model history of the Suzuki GF 250 S as I know it. I would be grateful of any contributions — sales brochures, magazine ads, magazine articles, pictures, specs, facts, corrections etc. Please scan the material in JPEG format (large enough that all the details are visible) and send them to me. Please tell me the source and the publication date if possible. If you send me pictures of your own bike, please follow these instructions.

Suzuki GF250S was a sporty motorcycle with a 250cc 4-cylinder engine released by Suzuki in February 1986. It followed the naked GF250, released a year earlier. The models were technically identica but insteda of being completely ”naked”, the GF250S had a half cowl, lowering the wind resistant, and most of all making the bike look sportier.

Its liquid-cooled single cam (2 valves per cylinder) inline-4 engine was already used in the Suzuki GS250FW, released in 1983. The carburetor is a 2-barrel type with 2 cylinders in one body. The GF250 is about 18 kg (40 lbs) lighter than its precessor, the FW250 that also had a half cowl fairing.

The engine is mounted on a steel L-BOX frame and it's got a 16-inch front wheel and 18-inch rear wheel. The rear suspension is a full floater type that can adjust the preload with a separate dial.

The Suzuki GF250 appeared early in the mid-eighties when the racing replicas were very popular. In 1986 Suzuki released the GF250S, equipped with a half cowl, and in 1987 it launched the GSX-R250.

No noticeable changes were made to the model since its launch 1986. Both GF250 models were discontinued in 1989.

A Special model was also launched in June 1986, a single-seater with wider rear tyre and an extra cowl under the engine, making the bike even sportier. The GF250 Special had a dark blue meter panel.

Colors: Plastician Blue Metallic / Special White, Marble Pure Red / Bright Silver Metallic, Space Black / Italian Red
The GF250S Special was Gray / White.
