About
the DR50 model
Antonio Cuadra, who was kind
enough to mail the brochure scans to me, tells that DR 50 W 1994
was made at Suzuki Motor España, at a factory in Gijón
(Asturias) in the Northern Spain. The factory was earlier a Puch
factory (Suzuki and Puch was manufacturing together lots of mopeds
until Puch was bought by the Piaggio group), and much earlier
a MV Augusta factory (filial).
The model used a Franco Morini GS liquid-cooled engine (made in
Italy) with 4 speed and pedals (like bicycles) at the swing arm,
the latter because the Spanish driving license for mopeds requires
that the mopped has pedals. Another requirement in those days
was maximum weight of 66 kg (now it can be exceeded). This vehicle
was in production until 1999. The late models had no pedals.
Antonio Cuadra writes articles
for a Spanish scooter magazine called "Fórmula Scooting".

Motor España.
