Suzuki AS90
1968–1970

I have tried to tell the Suzuki AS 90 model history on this page as I know it. I would be grateful of any contributions — sales brochures, magazine ads, magazine articles, pictures, specs, facts, corrections etc. Please scan the material in JPEG format (large enough that all the details are visible) and send them to me. Please tell me the source and the publication date if possible. If you send me pictures of your own bike, please follow these instructions.

.

Suzuki AS90 was basically the same bike as the AC90, released at the same time. The frame was an underbone type, made of pressed steel and the brakes were drum brakes. Both models used the same 86cc two-stroke rotary disc valve engine delivering 8.4 bhp at 7,500 rpm.

The difference was that while the AC90 was made for rough roads, the AS90 was a sports model and kind of a deluxe version of the existing 90 cm³ model, developed with the aim of appealing to a wider user base.

The body color was Candy Red, the front and rear fenders and chain case are decorated with chrome plating.

The Suzuki AS90G and AC90G models, ”luxuriously equipped G series”, released in 1968, differed from the standard versions (without the 'G' at the end). According to a news bulletin from Suzuki, the G models were offered in pecial color: Candy Red, while the standard versions were available in red and blue. The fenders and the chain cover were chrome plated. While the standard model only had a central stand, the 'G' models was also equipped with a side stand ”that is convenient for running errands”. Also, the AS90G had a ”recer style” seat, similar to the AS50, with a white seat and, making it easy to tell apart from the standrad AS90 — but making the bike look like the AS50 (AS50 Colt in the USA).

The retail price for the 1968 AS90 and AC90 (same price) was 75,000 yen.
The retail price for the 1968 AS90G and AC90G (same price) was 79,000 yen.

The 86cc Suzuki AC90 Scrambler and the street bike AS90 were sold only a short period of time. Both models were shown in the 1968 and 1969 Suzuki catalogs in Japan but disappeared soon after that. I haven't found any information of the model being exported to countries outside Japan.
