on this page as I know it.
I would be grateful of any contributions sales brochures, magazine ads,
magazine articles, pictures, specs, facts, corrections etc. Please scan the material
in JPEG format (large enough that all the details are visible) and send
them to me. Please tell me the source and the publication date if possible.
If you send me pictures of your own bike, please follow these
instructions.

This type of bikes are called Custom bikes in Sweden, Cruisers
in the UK. I don't know which one is more accurate name, personally
I think none of them are really good words to describe the Marauder
1600.

By calling a bike Custom I think of a custom built bike with a
personal touch. What's personal about a bike that not just looks
like another bike model - it also shares most of its components!
Suzuki's new VZ1600 Marauder is actually the same bike as Kawasaki's
VN1600 Mean Streak. Only some cosmetic details like brand and
model logos, the headlight, the air filter cover and the rear
fender are different, the rest of the bike is the same.

The Marauder 1600 is the first result of the co-operation between
Suzuki and Kawasaki. It is unquestionably cheaper to share the
cost of designing and building a brand new motorcycle model but
it certainly makes one wonder. I want to see unique - and great
- models. It's hard to be a proud owner of a Suzuki, if the guy
next door, owning a Kawasaki, has the same thing.

Apart from the big Marauder, another similar project, has already
seen the day of light (It's the end of March 2004 when I write
this). Kawasaki's KLV1000 is actually a slightly disquised Suzuki
DL1000 V-Strom.

I hope this kind of sharing of the models can result to lower
prices for the spare parts, the price tags for the motorcycles
are not partically low. Isn't it for it's all about - keeping
the prices low?

2005 Suzuki year code: K5

For 2005, all the Suzuki Intruder and Marauder models got new model names. They were all gathered under the new Boulevard family name. Also, the model names were altered so that the bikes sold in America got their model names by cubic inches instead of cubic centimeters.

The VZ1600 Marauder was now called VZ1600 Boulevard in Europe and M95 Boulevard in USA. I'd guess Suzuki didn't make these changes just to make my life miserable but it causes some problems; It will take me a while before I have made new model history pages for all the new Boulevard models and have collected them under a new Boulevard category...
The only changes for the 2005, except for the name, were adding s new color (XB3) and changing the front brake caliper to radial-mount 4-piston type. |
