The all new GSX-S125 was unveiled by Suzuki Motor Corporation for the European market at the EICMA 2016 in Milan, Italy in November, 2016. The GSX-S125 was a new model to the GSX-S street sportbike series, sharing common engine and frame with the fully faired GSX-R125, that was unveiled at the Intermot held in October 2016. Both bikes got the same 124.4cc single-cylinder, liquid cooled, DOHC four-stroke engine with 14.75 hp (10.8 kW) at 10 000 rpm, 11.5 Nm (1.2 kgf-m or 8.5 ft.lbs) @ 8 000 rpm. It's a punchy free revving engine with linear power delivery all the way to its 11,500 rpm redline. The bike is light, sporty and ecenomical. The GSX-S125 features vertically stacked LED headlights, with the low beam above the high beam, and position lights on each side of the headlight. The instrument panel is digital. The GSX-S125 has a full LCD instrument panel set in a modern dashboard, framed by turn signal, neutral, hi-beam, coolant temperature, malfunction indicator lamp, ABS, and programmable engine-RPM indicator lights. The GSX-S comes with a secure shutter-key lock system, which hides the ignition barrel until the separate receiver next to it has been triggered, using a unique magnetic fob found at the top of the key.

Suzuki GSX-S125 was unveiled at EICMA motorcycle exhibition in Milan, Italy in the fall of 2016, prior to its launch in the summer of 2017 as a 2017 model for the European market. It was an entry-level sports model aimed at A1 license holders (under 125cc, under 11kW) within the EU. It was a naked bike that shared its engine and chassis (without the fairing) with the fully faired sports bike GSX-R125, that had been unveiled at the Cologne Show in Intermot, Germany just before the Milan Show. Both motorcycles were equipped with a 124cc liquid-cooled 4-stroke single-cylinder DOHC 4-valve engine. 2018 Suzuki year code: M2

In October 2017, it went on sale in Japan under the name GSX-S125 ABS. At the time of its domestic release, ABS equipment on 125cc motorcycles was rare but was mandatory in Europe). The 2019 model for the Japanese domestic market only featured a change in color scheme. The parts catalogue even didn't even tell what frame numbers belonged to what model year. 2020 Suzuki year code: M0

The 2020 model received minor changes, including the addition of a hazard light switch. Starting with the M0 model, background color of the LCD instrument panel was changed from white to black. 2021 Suzuki year code: M1

As with many other motorcycle models, not just the GSX-S125, there were less 2021 models sold in Europe, partly because of the Covid-19 pandemic, partly because of the new strict emission regulations. From 1st January 2021 every new bike sold in the European Union was ment to comply with the next-generation 'Euro 5' emissions rules. Some motorcycle models could sail through the tests with minimal modifications but many others need extensive updates to meet the new rules Under EU type-approval rules, all Euro 4 motorcycles needed to be registered before the application of the environmental Euro 5 step on 1 January 2021. But this requirement was impossible to achieve as a result of the drop on sales caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Overall the global market for all types of vehicles was significantly affected by the economic repercussions of the Covid-19 pandemic. EU type-approval rules foresaw a flexibility mechanism called “end of series”, which allowed manufacturers to continue making available on the market, register or enter into service a limited part of their stock of Euro 4 vehicles. However, this flexibility clause was not sufficient to address the problem of extra vehicle stock created by the sudden outbreak of the virus. The GSX-S125 received three colour schemes for 2021. In July 2022, the undercowl shape was slightly changed, to comply with the Japanese domestic exhaust gas regulations.

2023 Suzuki year code: M3

The next model version of the GSX-S125 was presented in April 2022 with new colours, and modifications to homologate the bike for the new Euro 5 emissions regulations. Although it was early in the year, the model was presented as 2023 year's model. The new bike gets a redesigned exhaust system that features a dual exit muffler, as well as a larger catalytic converter; an expanded air box (4.3 litres) and a larger (32mm) throttle body. It holds the same performance as the previous model, with almost 15 horsepower and 11.5 Nm of torque, delivered via a six-speed, constant mesh gearbox. The new colours for the bike includes a blue and silver with black wheels; black with blue wheels; and white with red wheels. The names of the colors are: Metallic Triton Blue / Titan Black (BGY), Titan Black (YVU) and Pearl Brilliant White / Titan Black (GHY).

The '24 model version of the GSX-S125 was presented in February 2024 with new colours. The available three colors were Pearl Brilliant White / Metallic Triton Blue (BQJ), Stronger Red / Titan Black (GTA) and Titan Black (YVU). The Metallic Triton Blue version has blue wheels, the Stronger Red version has red wheels and the Titan Black version has now black wheels. It holds the same performance as the previous model, with almost 15 horsepower and 11.5 Nm of torque, delivered via a six-speed, constant mesh gearbox.

2025 Suzuki year code: M5

No changes were made for the specifications of the 2025 GSX-S125. Even the color options for the M5 models remained the same: Pearl Brilliant White / Titan Black (GHY), Stronger Red / Titan Black (GTA) and Titan Black (YVU). In some countries, older versions with different liveries were bering sold. In October 2024, the Suzuki UK website shows the following livery options for the M5 Suzuki GSX-S125: Titan Black (YVU), Stronger Red / Titan Black (GTA), Metallic Triton Blue / Titan Black (BGY), Pearl Brilliant White / Titan Black (GHY). It also shows the another version of the Titan Black (YVU) GSX-S125 with blue wheels, that's the M3 (2023) version.

Suzuki Motor Corporation doesn't list a 2026 year's model of GSX-S125 on its website. It skips the 2026 and jumps from 2025 directly to 2027.

2027 Suzuki year code: M7

The 2027 Suzuki GSX-S125 was launched by Suzuki in October 2026. There doesn't seem to be a 2026 version of this small sport tourer, Suzuki doesn't list any such model on its website. No specification change, but new color pallette and graphics. Color options: Metallic Triton Blue / Titan Black (BGY), Solid Black 50% Gloss / Titan Black (ANM)
