I have tried to tell the Suzuki GSX 250 R model history on this page as I know it. The GSX250R, presented at the Milan Show in Italy in November 2016, may look like its larger GSX-R cousins, but it's not a gixxer. The bike draws its biggest inspiration from the Katana/GSX-S lineage, blending rideability with reliability. Still, the R in the model name says that the GSX250R was designed to look like a Racing Bike. From the sleek, stylish bodywork down to the GSX-R1000R-inspired headlight and taillight, Suzuki's new mini machine screams, "I'm a sportbike." It has 248cc parallel twin motor that bears a similarity to Suzuki’s GW250. Suzuki has since updated that engine, and it now features new valves with tapered profiles, a more durable cylinder-wall finish that helps retain oil, and rollers on the rocker arms. Engineers also added new throttle bodies that house new injectors. All of that boils down to this: increased durability, flow, rpm ceiling, fuel economy, compression and lower emissions. Suspension comes in the form of a standard telescopic fork and a preload-adjustable shock. Neither are adjustable for compression or rebound damping, which is par for the course at this price point. New 10-spoke, 17-inch wheels at both the front and rear aid with aftermarket tire selection, and the 31.1-inch seat height welcomes riders of shorter stature, as does the narrow profile. Suzuki claims its GSX250R’s 4.0-gallon tank will stretch the bike’s range to about 280 miles. Doing the math assumes 70 mpg, which is similar to estimates claimed by manufacturers of 300cc bikes.

Suzuki GSX250R (not to be confused with the GSX-R250) was developed based on the GSR250 series and manufacturer in China. It was presented to the world at the Milan Show in Italy in November 2016 and a month later, in December 2016 was already available in shops in China, where the bike was manufactured. Four months later, in April 2017, the sales were expanded to Japan and Europe. The 2017 GSX250RL7 liveries offered to the Japanese domestic market for the were Crystal Blue Metallic/ Prearl Glacier White (BEE), Candy Cardinal Red / Pearl Nebular Black (AY4) and Pearl Nebular Black (YAY). While the domestic GSX250R was sold as 2017 year's model (L7), the European ecport version was labelled as 2018 year's model (L8). The color options for the Global market were Pearl Nebular Black (YAY), Pearl Glacier White No.2 (QHW) and Metallic Triton Blue No.2 (QHV).

Accordning to several independent websites, Suzuki is about to launch a substantially revised version of the GSX250R sportbike, complete with winglets and a parallel-twin engine with variable valve timing. There will be relatively small styling changes. Most of the bodywork is carried over from the current model, which dates back to 2017 – but there’s a new headlight and nose fairing, plus the seemingly inevitable addition of winglets on the side fairings. To make space for those aero add-ons, the turn signals are shifted onto the black plastic fairing segment just ahead of the bars. Other than that, the most notable differences are a redesigned exhaust that hints at internal changes to the engine, and a small badge on the front sprocket cover that reads “VVL” telling that the engine has a variable valve lift system. The bike’s weight is unchanged at 392 pounds, but its power is up from the current model’s claimed 25 hp to 29 hp. That may sound like an insignificant improvement until one realizes it’s roughly a 17% hike in output over the existing model. The GSX250R’s SOHC, eight-valve parallel-twin with a variable valve system is not unlike the setup used by Yamaha’s VVA-equipped models. The single camshaft has two different intake cam lobe profiles, each with their own rocker arm. At low revs and small throttle openings, the rocker arm riding on the milder cam lobe acts on the intake valves. When more performance is called for, the intake valves are opened wider and kept open for longer when a pin is pushed into place by oil pressure to lock the second rocker — which rides on the high-lift, long-duration cam lobe to the first one. While the existing GSX250R is still sold in the US and in Asian markets, it was pulled from European markets in 2021 when stricter Euro 5 emissions standards were introduced. Now, Europe is using the even tighter Euro 5+ rules, but the VVL system could help the GSX250R to reach the required emission standard.
