 Suzuki
GSX1000S / GS1000S Katana
A
1000 cc version of the GSX1100S was for the USA. It wasa de-stroked GS1100 motor to comply with the 1025cc limit for SuperBike racing (Wes Cooley, for one, had good success racing the the Katana).
The model was called GS1000S in Northern America. Markets outside the US had access to the original 1100cc motor. |

1982 Suzuki year code: Z

A 1000 cc version of the new GSX1000S was made to homologated
the model for racing purposes. By decreasing the bore by 2,6
mm the cylinder displacement was decreased to 998 cc, just below
the one-liter mark. The GSX1000SD was available in shops already
in 1981.
The UK 1000SZ, built for racing, had slide carburetors, whereas
the 1100's had CV carbs. The US 1000S, however, had CV carbs!
Also, the US versions never had the black finsunder
the nose fairing - the mounting holes were blanked-off on all
US bikes.
 |

1983 Suzuki year code: D

Apart for the striping on the fuel tank and the fairing, the
1983 GSX1000SD looked the same as the 1982 GSX1100SZ. 1983 was the last model year
for the 1000 cc Katana.
Only 3000 units of the 1000 cc Katana were produced. The GSX1000SD
was available in shops already in 1982.
